Travis Louie’s Curiosities – A World Full Of Wonder And Sideshows

Travis Louie’s Curiosities is a collection of fantastical artwork created with a Victorian and Edwardian flair. Drawings from the artist’s journals are brought to near-life through his rendering of acrylic washes and simple textures on smooth boards. These otherworldly portraits of human curiosities and supernatural beings hint at stories told and untold, creating imaginary world brought into sharp relief by these characters and their odd circumstances.

These array of beings, both human and almost human, inhabit his artwork as though they were real. The whimsical creativity put into each portrait leaps from the page into the mind’s eye, filling it with wonder and delight.

A Need For Nursery Rhyme Artists

Some clever children’s writers have helped to ensure a continuing need for nursery rhyme artists. For example, one of the more recent children’s books focuses on a cow, one that wants to walk on the moon. Apparently, that cow’s grandfather once jumped over the celestial body that circles Earth.

Obviously, a child reading that same publication would expect to see a certain illustration, namely one that shows a farm animal jumping into the air. An illustrator of nursery rhymes should be ready to take on the challenge of designing and creating such a picture. His or her contributions should aid development of one or more, interesting and fun pieces of literature.

Enjoy Strange Fun Art

Art is a wonderful thing. It is a combination of a release of creativity and passion of an artist and a source of entertainment and enjoyment for viewers. Sometimes, however, art is horribly misunderstood.

In many circles art has become something that is harshly judged. Artists are held to standards of others and the element of fun is often lost. The fact is, although there is a business aspect to art, it should be more about person expression than anything else.

Strange fun art is some of the best. These are pieces that the artists really pour their heart and soul into. Such spirited projects are sure to put a smile on somebody’s face.

Wonderful Restaurants: The Stand

The Stand serves classic casual favorites (dogs/burgers/sandwiches) gone wonderful in a classy counter atmosphere with moderate contemporary prices. This is the home of my favorite-in-category Southwest Chicken Sandwich. I’m also partial to ordering custom-built hot dogs with bleu cheese and bacon. The charming outdoor seating on the edge of Ventura Boulevard doesn’t feel like it’s on the edge of Ventura Boulevard. Great for kids (without being gimmicky) and great for grown ups (free pickles!).

Wonderful Restaurants: Summer Canteen

If you’re in the Toluca Lake / Studio City area of Los Angeles, you must try the awkwardly named Leaf-Wrapped Savory Nibbles at Summer Canteen. The more straightforwardly titled Summer Fried Rice is also fabulous. The restaurant is simply but wonderfully decorated with Thai posters and reclaimed wood. Nighttime visitors (both male and female) should check out the ambience of the men’s restroom which features a frosted floor-to-ceiling window that faces a heavily travelled street.

Alternative Art Books: Death Scenes

Death Scenes was one of the most fascinatingly disturbing books I had ever seen when I discovered it at a newsstand years ago, long before I became a publisher. I have seen so many books in the years since, but this one remains as shocking now as it was then. Some may not consider it an “art book” in the usual sense, but definitely an “alternative scrapbook”.

Strange Art Ideas That Have The World Talking

Many modern artists are making names for themselves, taking strange art ideas to new levels. Drawing inspiration from the world around them, these creative minds use a variety of unique canvases, and mediums. Their tools often include their own bodies, sidewalks, buildings, and the sky.

Whether expressing their inner turmoil and passion, or recording their observations, their creations certainly have art lovers talking. As the world takes notice, some of their ideas become more outrageous, and even dangerous. Although their concepts may be unusual, their resulting fame provides opportunities to further their art careers. Their fans cannot wait to see the strange art ideas they come up with next.

How Magazines Create A Need For Nursery Rhyme Artists

Not all of the drawings created by nursery rhyme artists get used within a compilation of Mother Goose rhymes. About five to six years ago, some artistically-minded visitors at a number of magazine racks discovered some illustrations that appeared to have been taken from Mrs. Goose’s personal file. In fact, those drawings decorated the pages of a magazine’s article.

Those sketches depicted a scene or two in which a sheep was present. Each such drawing was supposed to match with a line or two in the published story. That story’s tale included a review of the various rhymes in which a lamb/sheep had been mentioned.

Wonderful Restaurants: John O’Groats

People who know John O’Groats know how great the breakfast is (the bacon and the biscuits are legendary), but the greatness is actually oh-so-much greater than breakfast alone. Everything served here is literally made with quality you can taste. The fried shrimp in the Shrimp & Chips entree is almost certainly the best tasting and best prepared shrimp you will ever eat. The proprietor, Paul, is one of the most friendly and attentive restaurateurs in Los Angeles. John O’Groats is a place to celebrate the joys of high-quality, perfectly prepared comfort food. The Encino location boasts a pretty outdoor patio, a traditional dining room, a diner-inspired counter, an intimate sports bar, and a room for private parties. The menu and the space offer something for everyone.

Strange Fun Art Can Be Found Anywhere

The classification of something as art is subjective, that is it is up to the artist and viewers to decide what is viewed as art. There are several new works of creation that can be considered strange fun art due to their unordinary nature. Such works of art include art that is made out of food, with chocolate paintings as one example, a man who created a portrait of Ray Charles using over 2,000 colored Post-it Notes, a giant banana placed over Texas, the ravings of a schizophrenic French farmer carved into his floor, and many other examples.

With such a broad interpretation of what is art, anyone can take ordinary objects and make them into a masterpiece. It may even be purchased by someone who appreciates the quirky, yet symbolic side of life. Take a look at some today and be inspired to possibly create your own.
